Baseball At The Beach

There will soon be another attraction on the Crystal Coast other than the obvious. A baseball franchise is coming to the beach.

The team was introduced Thursday at Big Rock stadium in Morehead City where the Morehead City Marlins baseball team will throw out the first pitch next May.

The Marlins are the newest addition to the Coastal Plain Leagues south division.

The multimillion dollar stadium is scheduled to be completed by April just in time for the season. The team will play at least 28 home games next summer.

The Marlins moved from New Bern where they played as the River Rats for three years.

The stadium will seat about 1,500 people and players from across the eastern part of the country in the collegiate level will play on the team.

Good news for Morehead. Everyone needs to go out to the park to watch these kids. They play their hearts out and provide good entertainment value for the bucks. The Edenton Steamers have sent players into the big league including one who has pitched for the NY Mets, now with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
