Record Number Of Pills Collected In "Pills Can Kill"

A record amount of prescription drugs has been taken out of medicine cabinets throughout Carteret County.

The third annual "Pills Can Kill" collected nearly as many drugs as the previous two events combined.

The sheriff's department says over 68,000 dosage units of prescription meds were turned in this past weekend.

"Some of these drugs were such high dosage units and in such large amounts, it easily could have killed someone. I feel confident this program is saving lives," says Sheriff Asa Buck.
