Basnight Says He Won't Fight NC Wind Farms

The leader of the North Carolina Senate says he won't fight wind farms proposed offshore from an area he represents.

WRAL-TV reported that Sen. Marc Basnight said a public meeting in Buxton Friday that he's aware of concerns that wind turbines could disrupt scenic coastal views and tourism. But Basnight says alternative energy sources must be considered to thwart global warming.

His comments came at a meeting where researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill described a new study that found 2,800 square miles of coastal water could generate industrial-scale wind energy.

The researchers say offshore wind farms could supply 130 percent of all the power used by North Carolina in 2007, if all the usable waters were fully developed.

Jan, its like the OLF, if you think you can put farms like that in NC, then stop mixing so much snake oil with your koolaid. Jan, I am a democrat plain and simple. If you think our leadership is good or strong, I need only to remind you to look at the bottom right side of the witn posts here. You are defending the most corrupt government in the history of this nation. So much, I am ashamed to tell people I am democrat. You should run from your statement with your tail between your legs. So, you will take someones word for windmills? I have a bridge I own in NYC that I am willing to let go cheap, you taken?

how pathedic. we have Good strong Democratic leadership to help us work thru the difficult times imposed on us by previous weak leader, BULLEST FOR THEIR buddies best interest, is what has got us in straits to start with however, with conservation and inventation and exploration, we might get back to some sense of normal way of life. We surely hope so. .the way snake oil the Honorable Senate Leaders restuarant that was rebuilt in about 90 days, well for your polls , the construction company had 2 shifts , working 6 days weekly 24 hrs daily. By the way I mean working... not around picking up a paycheck like you can see all too often in other areas. Beautifully designed, functional, very nice. however the minimun amount of insurance he received probably will cover the cost of replacing the kitchen as it is now. I know the last three owners of this biz and they all are honorable MEN. If off-shore is a problem, put them on the mainland we can handle it.

Thanks OBXR, just one thought here, you state you have been around them and you had no problem with them? This just verifies to me you have no clue what you are talking about. I posted a couple of locations to read stories on the facts, invited Jan to look it up herself..I can see why you think I have a closed mind. Afterall, I went on the internet, caught news, actually went to Palm Springs, of course you know what you are talking about, your a liberal. I am sure you read the studies, researched the facts, drank the koolaid and it was good. I stated "real" facts and you dodged them rhetoric, nice job!

Jan, I agree with you, HOWEVER, don't try to reason with snake oil. It IS a waste of time as he is a person who's mind is made up mainly by the media. As he says there are both sides to the argument, however, he only chooses to side with the negative. This is the case 100% of the time with this poster. I've learned its better to just stop and go no further with this Phd canidate (or so he thinks) as he will go on and on and on no matter the circumstance. Rather than have any hope for something other than what the opposition says, he sides with the opposition on every single subject matter. I too have been in and around wind mills and I've never seen the issues he speaks of. These windmills would be way off shore, and judging by the noise the surf makes the 150 yards away from my house that it is, as well as the wind itself, I HIGHLY doubt wind noise from these off shore windmills will bother a soul, much less affect the ability to fish or enjoy the water.

Jan, I like jet noises, they fly over all of the time. Before you pass judgement on my posts, please go to the web sites links. I was all for windmills until I learned about them. Its like, wow, what a great way to have renewable energy. Then, where is the bad side? The links weigh in both sides. I heard the ones in Palm Springs about 2 miles away, there were hundreds on the hillsides there. The noise was not like a jet going over, it continued and continued and never changed frequency. Do some homework here and learn about it first. I only post the facts.

ole snake oil is a perfect name or title for the comments they enter. If the turbines make a little noise that will be okay, maybe it will drown out the boom boxes of the unemployed. Some people like to complain about jet noise but it is the sound of freedom to me. Snake oil try something that's probably new for you THINK POSITIVE.. maybe you will be in a better frame of mind.

Jan, while I want our leaders to plan for a future, I do not want something that is deemed a problem already put in blindly. Justifying that others are already using it, I posted several sites to see and make up your own mind. I was all for it, until I went to Palm Springs Ca and saw protesters. Why? Because of the noise. By the way, if you think our democratic leaders are doing a good job, you haven't read the polls.

how disgusting! People all over the world are trying to create more efficent forms of energy, and the cowards that wont put their names to their comments only want to throw jabs. Little substance in any of their comments. If they had a clue I'm sure Ben Franklin has already invented it. Let the clueness still use his high price resources. Let us have the wind turbines. They are already being used in the midwest. We are thankful that we have good Democratic leaders that is looking into our future. NOT snakes that look into the dark past.
