Three Arrested For ATM Theft

Three men have been arrested after police say they saw a stolen ATM being dragged down a major street in Jacksonville early Monday morning.

It happened at Bio-Test Plasma Center on Western Boulevard.

Police found the front door broken out, and the ATM removed.

Responding officers saw a vehicle dragging an ATM down Western Boulevard. They say the chain broke, and the three men abandoned the vehicle at the Scotchman on White Street and ran away.

Police quickly captured the three suspects.

Charged with injury to real property, breaking and entering, larceny after B&E, conspiracy, and resist, obstruct and delay police are Mark Yockey of Maysville, Joseph Marcellion of Hubert, and Franklin Taylor of Maysville.

Police have not yet said whether these arrests are connected with a rash of other ATM thefts and attempted thefts that have happened during the past month in several counties.

Previous Story

Deputies say several cases of ATM thefts or attempted thefts here in Eastern Carolina are connected.

The latest happened last night in Onslow County at a Trade Wilco on Highway 53.

In that case two men went to the store around 2:00 a.m., broke in through the front door and attached a cable to the ATM and to the truck's tow hitch. The theft failed because the machine was bolted to the floor.

Deputies says the related cases are in Carteret, Lenoir, Pitt, and the latest one in Onslow County. Two safe heists, in Carteret & Craven counties, are also connected, according to authorities.

In all cases a stolen vehicle was used.

In the successful Lenoir County theft, both the ATM and the stolen truck were found in a tobacco barn.

There was another attempted ATM theft from a convenience store Thursday morning, this one in Onslow County.

Deputies say it happened around 2:00 a.m. at a store on Highway 53.

They say a truck backed up to the store, attached a cable to the ATM inside and tried to pull the machine out of the business. It failed, because the ATM was bolted to the floor. Deputies say it caused major damage to the rear bumper of the truck, which was found later on Vandergrift Drive. The truck had been stolen from Craven County.

Earlier this month, robbers tried the same thing at a convenience store on Highway 43 in Pitt County, while in Lenoir County an ATM was taken from a store.

They need to make a movie of this story. What kind of morons will think about stealing an ATM? It's not like you can easily hide the evidence. Craig, how can the gov't use fingerprints against you? You are way too paranoid. Maybe DNA is excessive, just in case someone wants to clone you without your consent:)
