New Bern police say the death of an elderly man on Monday night is now a homicide.
Ed Yarbrough was hospitalized Monday night and later died. It happened at Westwood Arms Apartments, which is an apartment complex for the elderly or handicapped.
Police tell WITN News that after an autopsy was done yesterday, the 83-year-old man's death was ruled a homicide.
EMS workers were sent to the man's apartment Monday afternoon after a maintenance worker found Yarbrough with a head wound. Police say the worker was replacing air filters, entered the apartment and found the victim sitting in a chair.
Yarbrough was first taken to CarolinaEast Medical Center and then flown to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where he later died.
Investigators say they are now speaking with neighbors and witnesses to learn more about what happened.
