Swimming Advisory For Three Beaches After Heavy Rains

Heavy rains from the Labor Day storm have brought on three swimming advisories in Carteret and Onslow counties.

The advisories against swimming were posted Wednesday for the Radio Island public access and the north side of the mouth of Town Creek in Carteret County. In Onslow County the advisory affects the public access, one mile south of the Onslow Beach Bridge on Camp Lejeune.

State test results taken Tuesday show bacteria levels exceed state and federal levels for high usage sites.

Signs posted at the locations do not close the beaches, but only say swimming is not recommended within 200 feet of the signs.

State officials will test the sites again Wednesday and will remove the signs when levels drop to those below the standards.
