A Coast Guard Surgeon was airlifted late Sunday night onto a fishing boat off the coast of Beaufort after a report came in about an injured crewman.
The fishing boat Shelley notified the Coast Guard in Fort Macon about a 40 year old man with a cut to his chin and neck. The surgeon recommended he be medevaced via helicopter. A Jayhawk was launched from Air Station Elizabeth City but when the surgeon got on board the boat he decided the crew member could not be transferred by helicopter. Instead Shelley returned to shore. The victim was transported to Carteret General Hospital, where according to the Coast Guard he is in stable condition.
