Tropical storm Danny weakened into a tropical depression Saturday morning, but the storm still kicked up surf and ushered in strong rip currents.
It was a surfers paradise Saturday morning in Emerald Isle. Dozens of surfers lined up waiting with baited breath to catch the best waves. There were not many swimmers in the water, as the beaches were red flagged in Emerald Isle and Atlantic Beach, cautioning swimmers not to enter the rough waters. For beach homeowners, they were thankful this morning Danny stayed offshore.
Erin McKenna said, "We're thankful had the storms come on shore it would of put our home repairs behind, now that they are done its nice not to have a storm come and enjoy our porch."
Beach officials say they don't expect any erosion from Danny, just strong rip currents throughout the evening.
