Helping Kids Prepare For School

It's your chance to help children in need get ready for the upcoming school year.

The "stuff the bus" campaign is currently underway in Morehead City. The goal of the campaign is to collect school supplies like paper, pens, markers, and binders.

The collection started Friday and continues Saturday at Staples in Morehead City. The event is a partnership between Communities in Schools and Staples.

The supplies will be distributed August 14 at the old News Times building on Arendell Street.

WHEN I WAS GROWING UP, WE WERE CONSIDERED LOW INCOME LEVEL, AND THERE WERE FOUR CHILDREN TO DRESS AND SUPPLY FOR SCHOOL. MY PARENTS DID IT WITH OUT ANY SUPPORT FROM OUTSIDERS. MY DAD WOULD FIND WORK DURING HIS VACATION PERIOD FROM HIS FULL TIME JOB; THIS IS HOW THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR WAS FINANCED.
