A bill that would pay for dredging of some Eastern Carolina waterways has taken an important step forward.
Congressman Walter Jones' office says a bill that would allot money for dredging the Beaufort Inlet, the Bogue Inlet and the Morehead City Harbor is now under consideration in the Senate. The bill seeks to spend $250,000 on the Beaufort Inlet, $300,000 on the Bogue Inlet and $9.5 Million on the Morehead City Harbor.
"he ability of boaters and port users to safely navigate these channels is a key part of the Crystal Coast economy, and this funding will help ensure these waterways stay open,” Jones said.
The resolution that includes the dredging funds is part of the Fiscal Year 2010 Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.
If the Senate passes the bill with the resolution, it will need to be signed by President Barack Obama to become law.
