U.S. Marshals say they captured an escapee out of the Carteret Correctional Facility.
46 year old Dale Beatty was caught 9:15 P.M. Wednesday in Springfield, Ohio. That's where his wife lives.
Beatty escaped from the Carteret Correctional Facility work release program around 2 PM Monday afternoon.
Officials say Beatty was working for the Department of Transportation at their maintenance facility when he disappeared.
He was serving a 4 year 8 month sentence for larceny.
This isn't the first time Beatty has tried to escape the law. In 2001, Beatty was convicted of a misdemeanor escape from a prison.
We're told Beatty is in the Clark County Jail and will be there for a few weeks before his extradition back to Carteret County. Prison officials here in North Carolina say Beatty will likely face escape charges when he returns.
Just because an inmate has escaped before doesn't disqualify him or her to be placed on a work detail outside of the prison.
Such was the case with 46 year-old Dale Beatty of Carteret Correctional Center. Beatty escaped from Pasquotank Correctional in 2001. Authorities say he escaped from Carteret Correctional while on a work crew Monday in Newport.
Mike Hardee with Carteret Correctional says, "Beatty had a good behavior record and was even promoted from a medium security facility to a minimum during this sentence, and that is how he was able to work outside the facility walls. These guys, over the years based on sentence length and infraction history, have proven themselves to be somewhat trustworthy."
Beatty remains on the loose. He was set to be released in August of 2010.
Officials at the Carteret Correctional Center said Wednesday morning that an escaped inmate was still at large.
Lawmen across Eastern Carolina were alerted to an escape Monday afternoon from an inmate with a history of escapes.
The Department of Correction says Dale Beatty escaped from a state D.O.T. work crew around 2 p.m. Monday,
The 46-year-old Beatty was serving a 4 year, 8 month sentence at the Carteret Correctional Center for larceny from Pitt County.
Police say Beatty is believed to have changed out of his prison work clothes and is now wearing a dark shirt and dark pants. He is 5-feet 10-inches, weighs about 178 pounds, has black hair and hazel eyes.
In 2001 Beatty was convicted for misdemeanor escape. His previous convictions include breaking and entering and car theft.
Anyone who has seen the inmate or has information on his whereabouts is asked to call Carteret Correctional Center at 252-223-5100 or your local law enforcement agency.
