The North Carolina Commissioner of Banks has closed Cooperative Bank of Wilmington, which has branches throughout eastern Carolina.
Towns affected in eastern Carolina include Beaufort, Belhaven, Jacksonville, Kill Devil Hills, Morehead City, Nags Head, and Washington.
Subsequently, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation was named receiver. No advance notice is given to the public when a financial institution is closed.
All deposit accounts, excluding certain brokered deposits, have been transferred to First Bank, Troy, NC. On Monday, June 22 the former Cooperative Bank locations will reopen as branches of First Bank.

Besides a checking account, you may have Certificates of Deposit, a business checking account, a Social Security direct deposit, and other relationships with the institution, and tells readers to access a link for information on what to do.
