The 51st Big Rock fishing tournament has a winner.
'Sea Creature' returned to the Big Rock Landing with a winner--hoisting a 466 lbs. blue marlin to take the top spot from 'Figment'. They also claim the Big Rock win as this is the last day of the tournament, cashing in a first place prize of $746, 820.
'Figment' held the lead since Wednesday with a 439 pounder that would have cashed in for more than a million dollars had another blue not been caught on the tournament's final day.
Sea Creature's fight with the blue lasted around 30 minutes and was a team effort with Bobby Weeks of Beaufort and Brad Sewell, Swansboro, credited with the catch. Their marlin swallowed two baits which forced Weeks and Sewell to fight the fish simultaneously.
'Sea Creature' is owned and captained by Steve Coulter of Hatteras. It's Coulter's second win having also captained "Outlaw" to the Big Rock win back in 1992.
'Sea Creature' is currently on its way back to dock with what is being touted as a potential Big Rock winner.
On the final day of fishing 'Sea Creature' boated a blue marlin expected to weigh in over 500lbs. This would easily put them into first place.
With this catch they would claim $746,820 of the $1.6 million total purse.
Figment has the current lead 439 with the only tournament weight blue.
