A police chase this weekend has landed a Beaufort woman in trouble with the law.
Morehead City police say they tried to stop a car speeding down Broad Street Saturday night. Police say when they activated their lights and siren the car sped up to about 60 miles per hour. Officers say the car ran a red light and eventually pulled into a driveway on Cedar Street.
Police say Darleen Riggs and a 20-year-old passenger were both drunk. The 48-year-old woman's blood alcohol level was .22, more than twice the legal limit of .08.
Riggs has been charged with DWI, careless and reckless driving, speeding to elude arrest, open container of alcohol, running a red light, and giving alcohol to someone less than 21 years of age.
