Local government officials from all 20 coastal counties are in Pine Knoll Shores this week for a 2 day conference.

The counties and towns represented are part of the North Carolina Beach, Inlet and Waterway Association.

The group heard from many speakers about issues affecting coastal counties, most importantly insurance rate hikes.

Insurance commissioner Wayne Goodwin, was the featured speaker, but was not allowed to comment about the rate hikes, as that issue is currently under litigation.

Many of the 20 counties and over 22 municipalities are suing, as they're upset over the proposed increase in rates.

Bobby Outten, Dare County Attorney, and Assistant Manager helped bring about the lawsuit

The lawsuit is still in the courts.

Other topics discussed at the conference, were population increases at the coast, and use of stimulus money
