Police Department Gets Thermal Imaging System

One eastern Carolina police department has a new high tech tool to fight crime.

Emerald Isle now has a Tac-Sight Thermal Imager valued at $28,000.

The Department of Homeland Security awarded the thermal imager to the department.

The imager can detect heat from cars, people, and different types of items which will help the department look for evidence, assist in search and rescue missions, and apprehend suspects. The imager also can be used as a video camera and still camera to capture photos or collect evidence.

The award also covers the training for the officers who will learn how to use the device.
