25th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival Is Underway

It's an exciting weekend along our coast, as the 25th annual North Carolina Seafood Festival is underway.

The event draws an estimated 200,000 people each year to Morehead City and Carteret County.

It's the second largest festival in our state, and it has an economic impact of $32 million to Carteret County and surrounding areas. The festival highlights the importance of the seafood industry and raises money for non-profit groups.

WITN is proud to once again be a sponsor of this great event. Make sure to stop in at our tent at 6th and Evans Streets, right on the waterfront.

Friday night at the WITN tent, say hello to Dave Jordan, Lynnette Taylor and Brittany Gunter. Saturday, you can check in again with Dave and Lynnette, as well as Heather King, Chris Jones, Carly Swain, Hilary Magacs and April Davis. Sunday, say hello again to Carly, as well as Matt Engelbrecht and Clayton Bauman.

On Saturday, you won't want to miss Heather King's flounder fling at noon along the waterfront.

At the festival, you'll also find music, fantastic food, Cooking with the Chefs, rides, a boat show and sporting events. And don't forget to check out the mega yacht "SeaFair," which is also on the waterfront.

I have lived here since the festival began. Originally it was a tribute to the local seafood and the local area. Then it bacame a "carnival". I am sorry to say that most people in this area CANNOT aford to participate as they would like to. The free music entertainment is great. The last time my husband and myself went....we purchased hot dogs from a church sponsored booth. It is a shame that this has turned into nothing but another tourist trap.

I went last year for the first time and wasn't impressed. Not enough local seafood and it had an air of a cheap county fair about it.
