The Havelock-Cherry Point Rotary Club and the Havelock Chamber of Commerce have scheduled the Havelock Heritage Blues Festival for 7 p.m. on Friday, April 29th at the Havelock Tourist and Event Center.
Performers for the event include Big Ron Hunter, Captain Luke and Cool John Ferguson.
Ferguson, 56, a South Carolina native who now lives in Rocky Mount, began playing music at the age of 3 in his family’s church. He has been called one of the top five blues guitarists in the country
Hunter, 57, was born in Winston-Salem. His acoustic guitar playing has earned him the title as the world’s happiest blues man.
Captain Luke Mayer, 73, was born in Greenville, S.C. He developed his deep baritone voice by imitating songs on the radio as a teenager.
Tickets for the event are $25 each, which includes a barbecue dinner.
Also available is the opportunity to participate in the Havelock-Cherry Point Rotary Club’s reverse raffle. Tickets are $150, which includes admission for two to the blues concert, and the chance to win $5,000.
Money raised from the event go to support the Rotary Club’s scholarship program, Polio Plus program and the Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust fund as well as the chamber’s support of area nonprofit organizations.
