Bridges To Bogue Banks Reopen

Carteret County Emergency Management officials reopened the bridges to the Bogue Banks. That means residents and visitors in Carteret County can access Atlantic Beach from Morehead City, along with Emerald Isle and other towns in the Bogue Banks.

Carteret County Emergency Management says the bridges opened at 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Brian Kramer, the town manager of Pine Knoll Shores says as of 5:10 a.m., all the roads in town were clear. Kramer says the town never lost power during the storm.

The bridges should only be closed when the wind speeds near an unsafe level or after a storm when looting is possible. Why was the bridge from Morehead City to Beaufort not closed?

You say the bridge should not have been closed....but if it hadn't and something castrophic would have happened, you would be screaming the opposite. Suppose the bridge had been left open and a gust of wind blew a tractor trailer into the lane of a family of 5 leaving the area because of the storm...then what?? Best to err on side of caution...I applaude the officials for making the decision to close it!!

The bridges should not have been closed for this storm.
