Deputies Recover Drugs From Septic Tank After Flush

Police work can often be a dirty job. Just ask Carteret County deputies.

Deputies were able to flush out a drug suspect, even though they say Delton Doneghy flushed the goods down the commode.

Doneghy is charged with 3 counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver crack cocaine, 2 counts of sell and deliver crack cocaine, 2 counts of maintaining a dwelling to sell a controlled substance, 1 count of possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, and 1 count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carteret County deputies say when they got to the man's home at Eagles Nest Mobile Home Park, Doneghy flushed the drugs down the toilet. But deputies eventually recovered the cocaine and marijuana from the septic tank.

Deputies say Doneghy has an extensive record for previous drug convictions. He's in jail on a $100,000 bond.

STEPH.... I guess if someone kills your family member and throws the murder weapon in the creek law enforcement is not suppose to get it. Evidence is Evidence no matter how much S#?/ you have to go through to get it. And yes he does have rights.....the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney..etc

what is the law on a search warrant? i don't see any reason for them to pump the septic tank. i don't agree with the drug dealing, however people have rights.
