Third Drowning Victim This Summer Off Emerald Isle

There's been another drowning at Emerald Isle, the third one this summer.

Police say a 48-year-old Ohio man drowned Tuesday while swimming with his son in the 9400 block of Ocean Drive around 3:50 p.m.

Timothy Jackson of Rushville, Ohio was on vacation with his family.

Witnesses say Jackson was caught up in the rip current while swimming and was pulled into deep water. The man began yelling and several bystanders tried to help him. The man was unresponsive by the time they were able to get to him. CPR was started but emergency crews were unable to resuscitate Jackson.

Also Tuesday, four people were rescued on Ocracoke Island due to dangerous rip currents.

In June two other people drowned in Emerald Isle because of strong ocean currents.

I am this mans relative. He lived for 8 years on the ocean, he was a rescue swimmer. He lived for the ocean every year. The only reason he moved back to Ohio was to have his son close to family. If your going to make a statement no your facts and dont hide behind an "ANONYMOUS". His wife has lost a husband of 20 years and 18 yr old has lost a father. just because you live down their dont mean it cant happen to you.

I got caught in a rip current once, was swept over a mile down the shore before I could swim back in. It nearly wore me out to get back to the beach. I was on a boogie board and had Churchill fins on. Had I not had fins on, I would have never gotten back to the beach. No telling where I would have ended up.

Emerald Isle/Atlantic Beach has been just as bad as the Outer Banks. I hate knowing that there are people who drown out there. It's crucial knowing what to do when a rip current catches you.
