Unconscious Diver Rescued By Coast Guard

An unconscious diver was medevaced by the U.S. Coast Guard Friday morning 30 miles southeast of the Beaufort Inlet.

An HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Elizabeth City took the 30-year-old woman to Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk. The woman was aboard the diving vessel "Mutiny".

"I urge all divers to err on the side of caution when recreationally diving in the Crystal Coast waters," said Captain Anthony Popiel, commanding officer of Sector North Carolina. "There have been several dive incidents in the last couple of weeks. Please ensure that all the proper courses have been taken and that safety is the priority."
