Marijuana plants, some as high as 12 feet tall, were found outside of Newport on Tuesday.
Carteret County deputies have charged the property owner, Darrell Morgan, with manufacturing marijuana, possession with intent to manufacture marijuana, maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at $5,000.
Deputies say with the help of a Highway Patrol helicopter, they found 67 marijuana plants on Cyrus Pollard Road. In addition to the plants detectives also seized $4,672 in cash and a semi-automatic handgun.
Sheriff Asa Buck says each plant could have yielded approximately a pound of marijuana.
