DEPUTIES: Sex Offender Caught With Facebook Account

A registered sex offender is in trouble with the law after deputies say he got a Facebook profile.

Timothy Newman was charged with having a social networking site after Carteret County deputies got a tip that he had a social networking account.

Under North Carolina law it is a felony for any registered sex offender to create an account with a commercial social networking site.

Newman, who lived in Newport, is also charged with parole violation and is being held without bond. His Facebook account has been deleted.

to micke and pamela...you are total fools...he is a strong man with his faith in God, no matter what, he will be protected by him... I look forward to the day that the ones who put him in this situation have to answer for their sins. This man has more than paid for what "he did".

It's not whether he's a bad guy or not. It's the law that he is to abide under. Maybe he IS a good guy. He knows the real story. But the point isn't about that. It's about him doing what he's supposed to do to keep from being penalized by law. Do I think all sex offenders are what their label says they are? Absolutely not! I know that some people have been tricked by their partner, saying they are a different age and now they're punished for life, but regardless of that situation, they still have to follow the rules or be subject to the consequences.

And if I were to ever have find out that he has had anything to do with MY daughter, he will have an even bigger problem. Guess what, he was tried and sentenced, which means he is a real criminal. And I truly hope he gets thrown back in prison. Nuff said!

Why are you continuously refusing to post my comments? I was not being abusive to anyone, just stating facts. What happened to freedom of speech? Does it only apply to you?

Mark Lunsford, Jessica's father, Mark had child porn, (from news articles) on his PC when she went missing. Also his own son, Joshua molested a child, and got 10 days in jail and is not on the registry. So why doesn't Joshua get 20 years in prison? When you get down to it the number of child deaths in the US due to abuse or neglect is by far higher rhen sex crimes against children. John Walsh, the admitted sex addict, would approve anything which punished sex offenders, even knowing that his son's death was NOT by a sex offender. So now my and your tax money is going to go to keep this man in jail when I bet he was NOT trying to find a child on facebook. WE need to keep a eye on our kids, no law is going to keep them safe. As a mother or father WE can. Look at how many time you go shopping and there is a kid running around with no mom or dad close by. The news is only going to tell you what they want to and not the whole story, it's about exploiting YOU and fear!

Havelockcitizen, YOU are the one who needs to wake up and smell the coffee. You want to talk facts? FACT: He is a registered sex offender. FACT: Part of his punishment is that he is NOT allowed to participate on ANY social website. PERIOD. He violated his terms of parole. Now, if he is not fulfilling what is required in his terms of parole, then he SHOULD be revoked and sent back to prison. If you, or he are not happy with his terms of probation, then maybe you should all get a petition and go in front of the judge and ask that his case be revisited. Personally, I don't feel sorry for him at all. How do you know his crime went down like it did? Is that what HE told you? Did you read the court transcripts? You know I believe its part of public record. I damn sure wouldn't believe a word out of a convicts mouth, hell I worked at a prison for 4 years, and I dealt with these people all the time. Everyone in prison is innocent, you know...........

I agree with "I know". Just because someone is on the resgistry does not mean they are specifically a "child molester", a "sexual preditor", etc. In the case with Timmothy Newman he made a wrong decision based on lies told by the "victim" and was charged, served time, and was released on parole. Yet, because of politicians and the media hype anyone on the "list" is viewed as highly dangerous around anyone by the general public. Yes, he violated his parole and should get punished for that violation. However, this man has tried to continue to have somewhat of a normal life with this label above his head, and you (the general public)fear him and keep your children strictly away from him because of his "label". Wake up and smell the coffee people. Find out all the facts before you are quick to pass judgement on someone.

http://sexoffenderissues.blogspot.com/ The way the laws are.In time everyone will be a Sex Offender soon. Did you know in some states if you pee outside and get busted you are on the LIST. If you run nude at a football game your on that LIST. In some states if you are 17 and your GF is 15 you are on that LIST. Then if you move to North carolina you are still on that LIST.I just hope that your son is never lied to by a girl about her age. If so he will be on that LIST. A Sex Offender is not a pedophile or a predators. We continue to make and pass laws punishing ALL sex offenders for the death of Jessica and others, when 95% or more of all sex offenders are nothing close to the murderer of Jessica. Why don't we treat all murderers like Jeffrey Dahmer or Charles Manson? Because they are not all alike, that is why! Fewer children are dying violent deaths today than at any time since records began. So why do we fear the issue more than ever? Because the media and politicians.

It seems that there are many that have accounts that have access to children.. For one... some even have accounts on gaming sights and the probabtion offices are not able to do anything about it. How in the world are we able to ensure these offenders are where they need to be if probation offices are not responsive enough when given information. I have given info regarding an offender and it was disregarded and the offender moved out of state without permission. HMMMMM.... sneaky I would say and not very well monitored..This particular offender does not even live at the address that is listed by the New Bern Police department.. These things need to be THOROUGHLY checked out more than once or twice a year..
