A registered sex offender is in trouble with the law after deputies say he got a Facebook profile.
Timothy Newman was charged with having a social networking site after Carteret County deputies got a tip that he had a social networking account.
Under North Carolina law it is a felony for any registered sex offender to create an account with a commercial social networking site.
Newman, who lived in Newport, is also charged with parole violation and is being held without bond. His Facebook account has been deleted.
