Camp Lejeune Marine Saves Teen From Drowning

A Camp Lejeune Marine is being credited with saving the life of a teenager.

Officials say Sgt. Stephen A. Gladding was at North Topsail Beach Saturday afternoon when he saw a young man struggling to stay above the water.

Police say Gladding paddled out on his surf board to the teen who had drifted out more than two hundred yards from shore. Gladding reportedly pulled the boy from the water and onto the surf board.

Once back ashore, authorities from North Topsail Beach took the rescued teenager into their care.

Thank you Sgt. Gladding for showing that marines can do good here at home. There is so much negative news of marines getting into trouble! I hope more marines follow your example! Semper Fi!
