If you ever take Highway 70 to the beach, you know the traffic can be frustrating.
A new study shows improving the road would not only make the drive faster, but would also create new jobs.
According to that study released Thursday in Carteret County, updating the highway will create hundreds of jobs and improve the region's economy by more than a billion dollars.
The report focused on the impact of making U.S. 70 a limited access, interstate-like highway from Raleigh to Morehead City.
It suggests that communities surrounding the road are losing their competitive advantage to other areas with better highway access.
