Troopers Say Woman Going 85 MPH When SUV Hit Martin County Home

A Beaufort County woman has been charged with going 85 in a 55 m.p.h. zone after her SUV plowed into a family's home late Tuesday night.

Les-leigh Hopkins of Chocowinity told troopers that she fell asleep on her way home.

The Highway Patrol says the accident that happened on Highway 171, south of Jamesville near the Beaufort County line just before midnight.

Michael Watts tells WITN News he had just put his 12-year-old daughter to sleep when he thought a bomb went off. Watts says fortunately everyone was in their respective bedrooms at each end of the mobile home when the SUV hit the living room.

Both parents and child were sent to Martin General Hospital as a precaution.

The 35-year-old Hopkins was also sent to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers say alcohol was not involved in this crash.
