Road Reopens After Freight Cars With Phosphoric Acid Derail

North Main Street in Parmale is open once again, after it was closed for nearly five hours because of a train derailment.

Crews worked to put back two freight cars that jumped the tracks in the Martin County town. The derailment happend at the North Main Street crossing.

Mike Stall with Martin County Emergency Management says the freight cars did not overturn. He said they both contain phosphoric acid solution.

Stall says a crane was brought in to put the CSX cars back on the tracks.

There were a total of 131 freight cars on the CSX train that was headed to Rocky Mount.
