Sewer Spill In Martin County

Thousands of gallons of untreated sewage have spilled into a ditch in the Roanoke River Basin.

Public Works Director Kerry Spivey in the Martin County town of Williamston says 2,500 gallons spilled from a broken sewer main at 512 Warren Street.

The discharge was first discovered at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The crack was bypassed by 1:00, and temporary repairs were completed by 6:00 p.m., according to a release from Spivey. Permanent repairs were finished on Wednesday.

The North Carolina Division of Water Quality was notified and is reviewing the matter.

Them dang evil hog operations,,,,,, WHAT you mean it's not from a hog operation?? You mean this is ANOTHER municipal waste spill and it had nothing to do with hog waste? Remember this, yet again, when the River Keepers and environmentalists lie about hog farms!

Occasional malfunction of equipment or operator error resulting in municipal wastewater getting into the environment is insiginificant relative to the routine ongoing pollution resulting from hog farms in NC. The runoff from hog production facilities is the number one source of water polution in NC. No hog poop- just scientific, verifiable facts.
