The early dismissal wasn't because of rain --- it was because of the wind. If you've never driven a bus, you wouldn't understand.

It seems to me that Pitt County is making the right moves. I remember last year when the news was reporting the possibilty of some snow over night that other schools were canceling school or were haveing a 2 hour delay. Parents in Pitt Co were talking trash. It seems that Pitt Co made the right choices. You don't have to react so quickly.

The snow day decision you are talking about was a goog call for many counties. Bertie county went to school and had to leave early. That day a bus turned over. School officials have to look out for what is best for the students.

Silly, if it is going right over you, you had best stay put in a safe building.

I do not have children but I understand the situation. It's all about attempting to keep people safe and saving lives. And yes it is always possible that a life may be lost after the kids get home, but let's hope not. Apparently some of these posters do not have children and do not support and appreciate human life. Life is too precious to just be ignorant and be reactive. Be proactive and save a life.

I say to the ones complaining that schools are dismissing early this-If it offends you or aggravates you that the school systems are dismissing early, then just let your kids have a fun filled day of OUTSIDE playtime while good parents that care about their kids have theirs protected! It`s obvious that you don`t care about their safety! My county is not dismissing early, but I completely agree with the ones that are! If you had anything between your ears, and knew anything about the counties closing early, you would know that some have high rise bridges to cross over and being in the profession that I am in I can tell you wind and high rise bridges are not very friendly to top heavy vehicles! Why don`t those of you whining put a childs safety first for once instead of your matter of convinience?

The schools are only trying to protect the children. It is safer to have them home before the storm then trying to send them home during it. They are trying to get the buses off the roads before severe weather hits. My child is a car rider but I have no problem with them trying to protect someone else's child. I agree with Trav, you just can't please some people. They will find something to fuss about. Thanks to all the schools that send out concern for our children!

It's obvious some ppl do not have kids!! Thank God the school systems are taking this storm serious! Last April was per chaos with all the storms in our area, if you don't agree with your child leaving school, then YOU go sit with them in the school building,....yep didn't think so!!!

Is this something new? NC always have threat for severe weather. I think its called Spring. In the counties so far that doing early dismissal most of the kids are safer at school then home. I hope the weather dont get too bad but this is what happens is spring.

these storms that will be coming through the area are nothing to play with. there are tornado warnings now where the storms are moving through at. it is better to be safe than sorry when it comes to our children's safety. i would rather them be home safe than on a school bus in crazy wind, rain, & anything else.
