Homeowner, Gunmen Shot During Home Invasion

Bullets flew inside a home in the east early Wednesday morning when the homeowner fired at three people who he said broke into his home.

Derrick Gainer of Robersonville in Martin County says he was asleep around 12:40 a.m. when he heard a sudden crash inside him home. Gainer says that's when he grabbed his gun to investigate. He says he found three men inside the bedroom of his 18-year old daughter; one holding a gun to her head. Gainer says he fired at the men, who in turned fired back, grazing him on his arm and leg. The men reportedly jumped out his daughter's window and ran to a getaway car. The Martin County Sheriff's Office says two suspects ended up at Heritage Hospital in Edgecombe County. Deputies say they located the other two men in Rocky Mount. No names have been released at this time.
