Deputies say a man who died early Wednesday morning had been stabbed multiple times.
Jason Donaldson died after deputies say they received a call from a woman who reported that her boyfriend had committed suicide by stabbing himself in the chest.
The couple lived at a mobile home on Prison Camp Road, south of Williamston.
The SBI has been called in to assist with the case, but so far deputies say the man's death remains under investigation.
An autopsy is underway for a man who died Wednesday morning from a fatal stab wound.
Investigators are not saying much about the case, only that it's a death investigation.
A mobile home, located on Prison Camp Road in Martin County, seemed to be a place of joy for a father, his fiance and their new baby girl.
Until early Wednesday morning, when deputies got the call to respond to a stabbing inside the home.
"It just bothers me. I just hate it. I hate it for the baby to really never know her daddy."
That woman, who didn't want to be identified, says she's the couple's landlord. She says they moved in back in October 2013.
"He was always nice and treated me well. He was in between jobs and he was planning for he and this lady to get married. They had a beautiful little baby."
The deceased, Jason Donaldson, has been brought in for an autopsy to determine the manner in which he died, according to the Medical Examiner's Office.
Deputies say it was a fatal stab wound that took his life. The SBI is investigating this case with Martin County.
The autopsy should be completed on Thursday.
Authorities are investigating the stabbing death of a man overnight in Martin County.
Lt. Drew Robinson with the Martin County Sheriff's Office said around 1:20 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to a home located at 3194 Prison Camp Road for the report of a stabbing.
Robinson confirms with WITN the person who was stabbed at that home died from their injuries.
The Pitt County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the victim as Jason Donaldson. An autopsy on the body is expected to be completed Thursday morning.
