A corrections officer who worked at a state prison in Bertie County has been in and out of jail on charges of his own.
22-year-old Richard Evans of Hamilton was working as a corrections officer at the Bertie Corrections Institution in Windsor.
Windsor police conducted an undercover drug sting at the prison and Evans was busted. Police say the undercover operation was the first of its type, an attempt to learn who was bringing drugs into the prison.
Evans was jailed under a $75,000 bond but has already posted bond.
The Department of Public Safety says he resigned Wednesday, the same day he was charged. Evans had worked for the state since December 3rd.
He is due back in court July 18th.
