One church from the western part of our state will provide some Christmas relief for those ravaged by tornadoes earlier this year in the east.
30 Bertie County families were chosen from Colerain and Aulander Elementary Schools, and Bertie Middle School to receive free clothes, toys, and other gifts this season. Mount Carmel Baptist Church out of Charlotte is making the donations. Many families impacted by April's tornadoes planned to scale back or not celebrate Christmas at all because of financial hardships.
Organizer for the schools and guidance counselor Courtney Byrum says it's great to see people aren't forgotten.
"It's a very positive thing. We were thrilled about it. We've never had a church this big or anyone to adopt this many families," said Byrum
The families that will benefit have already been notified and will be given their gifts Saturday by volunteers from Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
