The fire at Liverman's Recycling in the Bertie County town of Kelford is out, according to Bertie County Emergency Management Director Mitch Cooper.
Cooper said at 9 a.m. Tuesday, one fire department remained at Liverman's, which is on Highway 11 North, in order to handle any flare-ups. At the height of the blaze, twelve fire departments were helping fight the fire. It was called in at 2:30 a.m.
Cooper says what started this fire appears to be the same issue that sparked blazes in November and December of 2011: sparks, according to the center's owner. Cooper said the ongoing issue needs to be addressed.
