Greenville Man Charged In Fatal Bicycle Accident

The Highway Patrol has released more information about Tuesday's deadly bicycle accident in Bertie County.

Killed was 40-year-old Anthony Lewis of Windsor.

Trooper J.O. Walter says Lewis was riding his bike on Highway 17 around 5:30 p.m. when he was hit from behind by a vehicle. The impact threw the man into a ravine along the highway and he died at the scene.

Walter says the car's driver, 28-year-old Andrew Owens of Greenville, stopped and called 911, staying with Lewis until first responders arrived.

Owens has been charged with death by vehicle.
