A Pitt County man was killed in a crash on Highway 11 Jack Branch Road in Bertie County Tuesday afternoon. Sgt. Mike Warren with the Highway Patrol says the passenger in a car hit by 2 tractor trailers, 25-year-old Jonathan Taylor of Bethel, was killed. He was taken to the hospital but did not survive. The driver of the car, 23-year-old Sophia Worsley was in surgery Tuesday night at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. She was flown to the hospital by Eastcare.
Troopers say the driver of the truck which originally rear ended the car, Fred Dupree with Guy Shavender Trucking of Pantego, is charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
The other truck was out of Nashville Tennessee. That driver is OK and will not be charged.
Two tractor trailers and a car collided in Bertie County.
The accident happened at the intersection of Highway 11 and Jack Branch Road after 1:00 p.m.
Highway 11 was closed for several hours.
Two people in the car were critically injured. Troopers say they had life threatening injuries.
Officials say the two truck drivers chose not to be treated at the hospital.
Emergency officials say the car was waiting to turn when it was apparently hit by behind and then pushed into the other lane where it was struck by the second tractor trailer.
Troopers say charges are pending against the driver of the tractor trailer that first struck the car.
EastCare helicopters were called to the crash, which is near Lewiston Woodville.
