SHERIFF: Martin County School Board Member Assaulted

The heated debate over education in Martin County turned violent Wednesday with a school board member assaulted.

Sheriff Dan Gibbs says Johnny Bryant, who represents district 6 on the school board, was grabbed by the neck by a man upset by some of the school board's decisions.

The sheriff says 66-year-old Raymond Leary of Williamston was served a criminal summons for misdemeanor simple assault.

Gibbs says it happened at the Shamrock Restaurant between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday.

What has been assaulted here is the reputation of the clergy as a whole. Some people are fake and should not claim to be men of the cloth. It gives the whole profession a black eye.....not that anybody got a black eye...... or a fat lip..... or anything.

Maybe we can read the outcome of this thing in The Enterprise. However, they may not have enough room to print anything about it in that two page paper.

Leary actually did touch him. We just lied to cover for him because that is what we do here in Bear Grass.

I think some of you need to get the facts before you decide to post something. Mr. Leary had witnesses that testified that he did not touch JB. He did not have to pay any court cost and was not given any citations...so to me that sounds like he was not guilty...

We're from Williamston, it doesn't matter if he is guilty or not. If we want him guilty, he is guilty.

Can anyone tell the public what has happened to the two people this story was originally about? Are they still in court or what? The comments seemed to have gotten far from the real story! WITN, will you give us an update? These stories are getting old!
