Officials: Bertie County Student Brings Gun To School

A middle school student is charged with bringing a gun to campus and putting their school on lock-down.

It happened at Bertie Middle School on Wednesday, and a student was arrested according to Chief Deputy Greg Atkins.

After the student was removed from the school and the gun confiscated, Atkins says officials put the school on lock-down to conduct a thorough search as a precaution.

Since the student is a juvenile, their name has not been released.

To JH Rose Mom: This middle school is supposed to be one of those "model schools." You know where all the middle shcool kids from the whole county got shoved into together. There used to be two middle schools in the county. Of course, these weren't "fit" to be open but one of them is now open again. There are still rivalries there from the kids being shoved together. I guess one of them just thought a gun would solve his/her problem. Sad.

Hello, it's an election year. We should probably be seeing comments from the sheriff. If nothing else thank your deputies for the hard work in the call. Or I guess what I heard about a Windsor Officer having to take the call because the school officer couldn't get help from deputies is true. Time to step it up for our kids.

I wonder if the Coalition of African American Students will file a law suit on this incident denying students of access to a free public education?

Thug in training. Charge his/her parent(s) with the state law that requires firearms be "kept in a manner in which they are not accessible to a minor".

What? I thought Rose was the only school with problems. That is the picture that everyone paints. How many students does this school have in it. Does it match the 1800 that Rose has? Where is the admin. at their school? Sorry had to vent, I just get tired of hearing people bad mouth Rose when other schools have their share of problems. This is a serious situations that needs to be handle promptly. Now what will the school board do? Probably slap him on the hand and send him back to school, because "he is intitled to an education". Doesn't matter if he is trying to kill those that are trying to give him that education that he so deserves.
