US 17 Southbound Traffic Reopens After Crash Cleanup

Southbound traffic on Highway 17 has returned to normal after crews worked to cleanup an accident that happened Wednesday night.

The DOT said southbound traffic within the Roanoke Refuge area, between Williamston and Windsor, was detoured Thursday afternoon. That detour ended around 3:30 p.m.

The Highway Patrol said a crane was brought in to clean up the debris from the log truck accident.

Wasn't a log truck. It was a refrigerated box truck hauling fresh fish that overturned in the deep part of the median last night. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. It had to be lifted out with a crane so the traffic had to be diverted around the site. This was the safest way to do it. It was too dangerous to attempt last night in the dark and rain. This is a very dangerous area with steep dropoffs and water on both sides of the highway. Unfortunately the idiot, who ran the driver off the road, drove away and didn't bother to stop and check on the driver and left him to take all the blame.
