NEW INFO: Structural Collapse At New Martin County Church

An accident at a church construction site has sent one worker to the hospital.

Martin County authorities say the accident happened around 1:00 p.m. at the Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Hassell. The church is on Highway 142.

A captain with the Hamilton Fire Department tells WITN News that the crew was working inside the new church when the walls started to shake. A worker who was on top of one of the roof trusses jumped down and then the trusses fell on him. Co-workers were able to pull that person from the debris.

The fire captain says that man suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The new church, which is located behind the existing church, was framed up, but its roof had not been put on yet.

"False", your statement, "I couldn't be further politically correct" is the most honest and "Truthful" thing you have said. You certainly couldn't be any further in the politically correct, humanist, socialist direction. God will deal with you, you won't smartmouth him for long. Careful what you say girl. If you are right, we are both just dead. If I am right, I'm in heaven and you are in it pretty deep and miserable for a long, long time. I pray you see that there is only one way, just as the Bible says.

citizen, if you know so much then you would know that we did not elect our chief, the town appointed him. If you truly live here, then you know his lifestyle. why do you want someone you can't depend on as a fire chief? He has not made a call at night in YEARS! Paperwork from the scenes will verify this.It won't be long before he will be the whole dept because everyone is tired of it. See who comes to your aid then. Be careful what you wish for.

There's nothing new about this article...

Neon George: You are correct--this discussion has digressed quite a bit from the news story. But, hasn't it been a fun trip?!?! :) -------Neo: Whew! Now I KNOW you're not speaking to me. I couldn't be further politically correct, and my world is far from Utopian (though, that is quite a pleasant thought). It would appear, however, that you are running out of ammunition as that was quite a weak response. Alas, I'm growing tired of having to dig through to find this thread (and, I refuse to bookmark such things for some reason...). I will try to remember to check back in a couple of days. Until then, I look forward to our next conversation on a newer topic. Hmm... that makes me think.... have you commented on the Haiti situation? Will have to look... G'day.

To Anonymous - Just can't comment without throwing the old darts huh? I'm sure that there are a lot of fine and caring people trying to do something good on HDVF Dept. but I hear that some of the fire department members really don't think it necessary to follow the rules as long as everyone else does. Most of what is spread around about the dept. seems to be coming from just a few members that don't like the rules. Based on your comment, you seem like you may be one good reason for the rules. Just because you don't like them doesn't mean you can ignore them. Anyway, isn't the chief nominated by the dept.? Maybe some of the members should focus on being firemen rather than politicians. Nothing to say about Oak City, I'm sure they have their own problems.

"Neon George", if you can't follow along with the discussion go back to the cartoon and close the hole. The word neo can be combined with almost any word, when I read the post's of someone mislabeling themselves as "truth", the term "neo-nitwit" comes to mind. There seems to be a new breed of socially aware, politically correct nitwits floating around in their own utopia lately.

Neo: I also find it amusing that you continue to attack the intellect of the people that you, apparently, feel worthy of your retorts. I quite enjoy our little...discussions.

Neo: I sincerely hope that your "calling names" comment was in no way directed towards me as I was simply rebutting your nonsensical response caused by your obvious lack of comprehension of what was stated and blinding condescension. I simply explained "to neo's" association with "neo" and "nazi." Also, "To Neo" did not call you a nazi. He simply asked a question (hitting a nerve, apparently). You inferred. Perhaps if you hopped down off of your high horse, you'd be close enough to read where I stated that I did not necessarily agree with "to neo's" sentiment. So, check yourself. That being said, it seems many problems in this world are brought about by single-minded, extremist religious perspectives--not unlike yours. If only we could all think just like you, eh? Odd. That mentality sounds familiar. Don't be so closed minded that you are blind. I do like the fact that we both managed to work in 'nonsensical.' 'Tis such a wondermous, under-used word. "Non-sens-i-cal" Fun, huh? :)

The firemen simply want a leader who is sober and we do not have that. The town seems to think that a drunk chief is a good thing. That is the controversy here.
