Bertie County School Bus Accident, Several Injuries Reported

Highway Patrol is now investigating a car accident in Bertie County that sent several people including students to the hospital Wednesday night.

Troopers tell us a school bus traveling south on US 13/17 near Windsor stopped to let a passenger out, that's when a Honda traveling behind the bus changed lanes in front of an 18-wheeler. Authorities say the truck hit the Honda and the Honda hit the school bus. It happened a little after 6pm.

According to officials the driver of the Honda was transported to the hospital along with 3-4 students coming home from an after school program. Troopers say their injuries are not serious.

No charges have been filed yet, authorities say they are waiting to interview a couple of other witnesses.

Some drivers feel they have to "beat" the truck instead of just following one. Many times I have seen cars dangerously pull right out in front of trucks and other oncoming vehicles. This action majority of the time causes a bad wreck in which the driver and others involved lose their lives. It does not hurt to just slow down people. What can be so important that you'll risk dying for??

I know at least one of Bertie County's sheriffs was not at the scene; he was busy speeding through Chocowinity tonight in his cruiser. Apparently 50 in a 35 is acceptable if your destination is Burger King or Trade Mart.

I drive and 18# wheeler, many times ,I have had to put my truck on the shoulder to keep from hiting some one that was not looking at what they were doing. SO the truck drivers do try to save liver.

I admit there are some bad truck drivers out here , but the story says the (CAR CHANGED LANES IN FRONT OF THE TRUCK) ! Hello !! I drive a tractor trailor and been doing so for 16 years now . I've been in a few accidents , but none of which were my fault ! I got the records to prove it . So before you go pointing fingers , I and alot of others feel that you should get the facts straight !! I am glad noone was seriously injured ! Thank GOD for that !!! Slightly Angered

I know that with the upcoming snow the DOT is probably busy, but why not clean up the mess from the bus accident on yesterday. It is only a reminder of what terrible accident could have happened. The bumper of the car, glass and other fragments are still on the shoulder of the road. Let's keep BC Clean! We are thankful that all of the lives were spared.
