A man facing more than three dozen counts of animal cruelty will wait a bit longer before his day in court.
Stephen Kyprianides is facing 36 misdemeanor animal cruelty charges in Bertie County. Lawmen say they seized 46 dogs and three cats from the 68-year-old's home in May, when officials found lethal ammonia levels.
Kyprianides was to appear in district court Wednesday morning, but his case was continued until August 6th.
Sheriff Greg Atkins says this isn't the first time Kyprianides has had dog trouble. Twelve years ago New York authorities found the man with 15 dogs, 16 cats, 30 pigeons and an iguana, all found in insanitary conditions.
Kyprianides was also charged back in 2004 in Hertford County with the unlawful disposing of domesticated dead animals. Authorities say Kyprianides was putting dead animals in mini-storage.
He was released on a $5,000 unsecured bond and is not allowed to own any animals until his case is heard.
