Drive-By Shooting Kills Greenville Man

A Greenville man is dead after a drive-by shooting in Martin County. Chief Darryl Knox of the Robersonville Police Department says the shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of West Green St. and Roberson St. in Robersonville.

Chief Knox says 21-year-old Curtis Sheppard of Greenville was fatally shot. An ambulance transported Sheppard to Martin General Hospital in Williamston, which is where he died.

Sheppard's family tells WITN News that they are distraught over his murder because they say he was a well liked man who came every day to visit his mother and grandmother. The picture the family provided WITN was taken when he was a teenager.

An autopsy shows Sheppard was shot in the upper leg and bled to death. Sheppard's death is the third murder in less than a month in Martin County, the second in seven days.

No one is in custody at this time, but Chief Knox says investigators are following leads on a suspect. The department is also investigating whether anyone was with Sheppard at the time of the shooting.

In answer to where are the parents: Yes, where are the parents of the coward who shot Curtis? Curtis' parents and family raised him WELL. But how could this coward's family KNOW what he did, feed him and shelter him. SHAME on you, all of you who harbored him, SHAME on you, father of the coward, because as a MAN, you should walk his worthless hips down to the police station and turn his hind parts in since the police can't "find" him. If someone had done this to your coward of a son, (ish) you would want everything possible done for him. Put yourself in this young man's mother's shoes!! Neither of them deserve this and I hope your boy gets everything he deserves coming to him. I'll be a welcome bystander in court at this trial. Curtis, rest in peace. We love you and will forever miss you.

No Arrest, so you think a cop with a 4 year degree would make a diffrence huh? Let me be the first to tell you, if you think that then you are an idiot! If you didn't know,State and Federal agencies are falling back on their higher education requirements because they realize that degrees doesn't make officers better at their jobs, it's the experience. Book smarts wont keep you alive, street smarts will. When cops go to court, the judge doesn't ask about their education when they testify because cases are built on training and experience. You said I was was releasing valuable information? If I recall correctly, I didnt say anything that most people didnt already know. I'm sorry, if you had went to college for a CJ degree you would've known that. We can on and on, but like you said its not about us its about getting justice. What I'm trying to stress to you is, have faith in these men/women and trust that they will find the people that did this.

BLUELINE ; Number 1 I watch no tv as I have no time ; Number 2 It bothers me that people with 6 months training get to carry a badge and a gun and act like they are detectives with no background in criminal justice and or a degree ; Number 3 Do you not have better things to do than post on witn ? Number 4 ; Alot of innocent people are in jail because of dirty cops / corrupt investigations ; Number 5 Computers don't solve crimes moron human beings with suffiencient educational backgrounds do ; Number 6 I support le in every way I can ; I am not degrading officers or public servants, but its obvious people like yourself who call themselves officers cannot catch a cold ; And if what you said is true, then why are you giving away valuable investigative information for the "suspects" to read in a public forum? FYI It is not about you or I but about bringing justice to the families and cleaning up the streets! SO SEE LAST COMMENT GO AND DO YOUR JOB! IS WHAT MY TAX DOLLARS PAY FOR !!

Still No Arrests, that's the problem I am doing my job, are you doing yours? If you worried about your job then you wouldnt have time to worry about mine. Its obvious that you watch too much television and you think that you know everything. On one of your comments you asked why were the suspects walking around free. Here's a little info for you; a person of interest in a crime is what is called a "suspect". After the investigation is complete, the evidence that is gathered would prove if the "suspect" is actually the offender in the crime. That's why big cases like this takes so much time and effort. Officers have to follow every lead and gather all of the evidence before filing charges. I guess watching CSI convinced you that a murder can be solved in 1 hour with a high tech computer huh? If the police arrested every person that was suspected of committing crimes, then there would be a lot of innocent people in jail. Do yourself a favor and stop posting comments.
