A family and community remain in shock over the news of a volunteer firefighter who was severly injured while helping a woman at the scene of a car accident.
Friends say Timothy King's legs have been amputated and he remains in ICU at Pitt Memorial Hospital.
King is a volunteer firefighter for the Trap station in Colerain, Bertie County. King was about to help a woman whose car flipped and veered off the road after she hit an ice patch Monday when he was hit from behind by another car.
Now many in the community are coming together to support King and his family. Mike harrell, one of King's friends, says "We're all just trying to pull together and do everything we can to come together, go and carry on, and do what we can to help Timothy get through this."
Friends say it will be a long recovery and that any donations people can give towards his hospital bills will be greatly appreciated by his family.

Bertie County Authorities tell WITN family and friends have gathered at the hospital to support and pray for the recovery of 25-year-old Timothy King.
King, a volunteer for the Trap Fire Department, was responding to an accident in Powellsville Monday morning when a car passing by slid on a patch of ice and crashed into him. A witness tell us both of his legs were severed.
At last report, he was in critical but stable condition.

Trap volunteer firefighter Timothy King was responding to the crash. Officials say he was putting on a protective vest when another car passing by slid on a patch of ice and crashed into him. Highway Patrol says King has massive injuries to his legs. He's listed in critical condition at PCMH.
Officials say charges are pending against the driver who hit King.
