3 Children Injured, Not Buckled Up In Bertie County Crash

The driver in a Bertie County single-car crash will face charges after lawmen say three passengers under the age of four were not properly restrained.

The accident happened on St. Francis Rd., south of Windsor Monday, according to the Roanoke Chowan News-Herald. The paper says Carol Spivey Lee, 55, crashed with two two-year-olds and a four-year-old in the car. Neither of the three children were secured in car safety seats.

The report says two of the children are from Williamston and one is from Greenville. They were taken to Bertie Memorial Hospital, but all are expected to be okay.

Lee faces careless and reckless driving and child restraint charges.

Peaches26, you really sound ignorant saying that the parents should be charged as well. Like "parent" said, I too got on that van EVERY MORNING and RESTRAINED MY CHILD MYSELF! We parents can't be to the daycare center in the afternoon to restrain them, if that was the case, I don't think we would have them on the van at all, they would be restrained in our vehicles, PROPERLY! So stop and think, "what if it was my child", just be thankful for us that we are bandaging scrapes and not burying these 2year old kids!

With the looks of the van if they were not in their seat belts then the injuries of the children would have been worse. Even though she was neglegent about carrying the kids in improper car seats, the parents and daycare authorized this. I believe if the woman is charged the day care and parents should face the same charges but worse because they authorized their kids to be carried in these car seats.

I am a parent of a child that was injured in that accident. I disagree with you comment "parents authorizing" behaviors like this. Please take time to know the facts of a concern parent:. 1. I got on that bus everyday to properly restrain my child. 2. Plenty of times I have offered my child car seat when one was not provided. I cannot account for how he departs that center unless I am there picking him up. As a parent we sometimes have to trust and leave that responsibility to our care givers. I am grateful all the kids are fine and even the driver. But concerning my child, I will and have taken proper action to avoid things like this from reoccurring. Thanks

My son was one of the three children that was involved in this terrible accident! I just thank God that they were all ok! By the looks of the vehicle, it shows that God had them all protected cause it could have been a lot worse!

This tragedy could have been avoided. Sounds like it was a grandma that thought she could scoot down the street without fussing with car seats. My mom did this several years ago with my son; and after I got done explaining to her that it was A LAW and all it would take would be one mistake, she understood the seriousness of putting children in car seats AT ALL TIMES. Hope this woman learned her lesson.

Stupid, Stupid, Stupid! I see cars on the road all the time with little ones standing on the seats and moving around.

This is what we called a 2 star daycare center....we don't have this problem with a five star daycare center...she knew them kids should have been in there car seat...If I was the owner she would be dismissed...ONLY AT KIDDIE WORLD!! SHAME ON THEM...
