Pushing For More Highway 17 Improvements

The push continues for state leaders to widen Highway 17 from Williamston to Wilmington.

The Highway 17 Association met Tuesday and delivered its annual status report on ongoing projects, projects that cost hundreds of millions of dollars to fund.

With the General Assembly reconvening Wednesday, raising taxes to pay for these roads is something Senator Jean Preston doesn't believe will be well received by citizens in the slumping economy.

The Wilmington bypass is near completion and cost more than $500 million to build.

Jean Preston is right, raising our taxes for this OR anything else will not be well received. Hey Dave Jordan, who exactly is on the Highway 17 Association? I think that might have been pertinent information for the article.
