Raleigh - The Williamston Tigers drew first blood in the state 1-A high school football championship when quarterback Emery Griggs hit Kareem Bell on a 50 yard touchdown pass in the first quarter.
The pair hooked up again on a 18 yard touchdown pass after the second Mount Airy turnover of the game to extend their lead to 14-0 late in the first quarter.
Mount Airy answered with a field goal then a Michael Dobson touchdown run to pull within 4. The Granite Bears then added a touchdown run from quarterback Aaron Wheeler to take their first lead of the game at 17-14.
Mount Airy went on to win 37-14.
