Williamston-Based National Guard Unit Deploying To Iraq

A National Guard unit from Williamston is among 26 units from across North Carolina that will soon be deploying to Iraq.

In all, approximately 4,000 soldiers from the 30th Heavy Brigade Combat team will head overseas.

135 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 252nd Combined Arms Battalion, Eastern will hold a deployment ceremony at the Bob Martin Agricultural Center on Monday at 2:00 p.m.

For 100 of those soldiers this will be their second deployment. Fifteen have been deployed at least twice before. The National Guard says two members of Company A have been killed in action, while seven were wounded in past deployments.
