A man from Washington is dead after a Tuesday afternoon crash.
The Highway Patrol says 77-year-old Marvin Whitehurst died at the hospital shortly after the crash on Highway 264 in Beaufort County near the Pitt County line. The wreck was reported around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Troopers say 22-year-old Jessica Joyner of Washington rear ended Whitehurst's pick-up truck, forcing him off the highway. Whitehurst's truck was substantially damaged. Joyner's truck was also damaged.
At the scene, troopers did not think Joyner or Whitehurst had life-threatening injuries. However, Whitehurst died shortly after arriving at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, according to the Highway Patrol.
Joyner is charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.
